2. Science/Software

2.1 Check for new APSIM Major Improvements

@Keith-Pembleton call for comments by exception.

@yashvirchauhan noted the new APSIM Soybean development and wanted to understand the science and how it differs from the Classic model. @yashvirchauhan to comment on GitHub issue - APSIMInitiative/ApsimX#2731. Invite the developers (@hut104 and @sarchontoulis) to present on this work to the RP.

@Keith-Pembleton raised questions in relation to the rotation work - APSIMInitiative/ApsimX#3890. @Keith-Pembleton would like to road test this when appropriate

@Keith-Pembleton raised question in in relation to the Plant NO3/NH3 in AgPasture developments. ACTION: @rcichota to summarise his explanation in the GitHub issue - APSIMInitiative/ApsimX#3963

2.2 Updates from RP on models and reviews

Models under development
No updates provided

ACTION: @sarahcleary to include all models under development under this agenda item.
@APSIMInitiative/reference-panel to allocate a RP member to be responsible for providing updates on each of these developments.

Models currently under review

• AgPasture
  @APSIMInitiative/reference-panel confirms AgPasture should be in release after minor amendments by @sno036 as requested by Matt Harrison.
• Red Clover
  Under review by @JJguri and to be commenced review by @MarkLieffering this week
• Creating of New Soil Nutrient Model
  @hol353 provided brief overview. @sno036 and @Keith-Pembleton to review

It was noted that it was difficult to receive a summary of the new model for use on the web post review/release etc.. @sarahcleary to update review process to include a few sentences/summary of the new model for use on web etc.. Review process not to commence until this has been received.

3 Software

4 Actions required for AI SC meeting

Outstanding Actions required for AI SC Meeting on 2 August

• Development plan - Update 18/19 Development Plan #7 - request for final updates to be provided by COB Friday. New simple format to be developed for all RP reps and others to feed in directly.

• Request for report on AI funded software position at each SC meeting - AI SC Report - AI funded software position #9
  Draft to be forwarded to @Keith-Pembleton by end of week. Final version to be circulated to RP prior to SC meeting.

• Request for update of GitHub process and RP Meeting structure/changes - Paper on GitHub process and RP meeting structure and changes #10 @APSIMInitiative/reference-panel to forward comments to @Keith-Pembleton

• AI-PFR Potential Opportunities - AI-PFR Potential Opportunities #13
  Request from each member org to provide input into any synergies, plans with respect to PFR's focus areas. @sarahcleary to follow up key contacts.

Short discussion on the issue: Audit of APSIM papers containing models (and/or improvements) not in an APSIM release - #6 - noting that this is an ongoing issue and if anyone knows of any models not in APSIM that 'should be', please load the reference/link onto this issue.

5 Training

• Update on APSIM Week
  @sarahcleary provided an update on EOI - currently 18 responses.
  Agreed on a soft deadline for abstract submission to be 20 Oct 2019, with a hard deadline of 30 Oct 2019.
  @JulianneLilley commented that there needed to be more information on the EOI. Update EOI or at least more info on website and/or brochure.
  With regard to workshops - provide clarity of the level of experience one needs with APSIM. Requirements - previous use of APSIM; attendance of a previous APSIM workshop. Training could be self training - via the documentation provided on the apsim website.

• Suggestions for APSIM workshop topics and facilitators
  ACTION: @sarahcleary to set up issue and @APSIMInitiative/reference-panel to nominate potential facilitators

• Update of APSIM download screen to enable an opt-out for updates/notifications
  @APSIMInitiative/reference-panel agreed to include this as part of the download process. Ask @hol430 to update the download process. Require an opt-out as well as clarity what type of information will be forwarded to them.

6 Website/Communications

No update. @sarahcleary request for information to be highlighted on the website.

@sno036's demonstration postponed to next session.

7 Science Chats

Any powerpoints to be forwarded to @sarahcleary prior to RP meeting so they can be shared..

@yashvirchauhan provided an update on a recently published paper on phenology on legumes. Asked @yashvirchauhan to discuss work with @AllanPeake
