Quick summary

The Tags feature is unexpectedly appearing in the editor for Pages when using the Sketch theme. Tags added to Pages do not function as they would for posts, and since tags are typically not applicable to Pages, this option should not be displayed.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Activate the Sketch theme on a WordPress.com site.
  2. Create or edit a Page
  3. In the Editor sidebar under Page Settings observe the Tags section appearing
  4. Add a tag
  5. Save or Publish the page
  6. Observe that the tag does not affect the Page in any way (the page won't show in the theme's featured content or the tag cloud widget, only posts do)

A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.

I expect not to see the option to add a tag to a page in the editor.

What actually happened

I can add a tag to a page even though it does nothing.

If the above answer is "Yes...", outline the workaround.

This issue could use some more labels, to help prioritize and categorize our work. Could you please add at least a [Type], a [Feature], and a [Pri] label?

📌 FINDINGS/SCREENSHOTS/VIDEO
While I'm able to replicate this, this is what I see from the theme description:

  1. Create at least a few posts, pages, or portfolio projects. For each item you’d like to feature, use the Tags & Categories area of the editor to add the tag you chose under Customize → Featured Content.
  2. Add a featured image to each post, page, or portfolio project you’re featuring.

I suspect that having Tags for Pages is expected as this theme allows you to feature any post, page, or portfolio by using tags.

@Automattic/t-rex, could you confirm if this is the expected behavior? Thank you!
