Heyo! Thanks for making an app for FA :D Just wanted to suggest an SFW mode feature for the app similar to FA's website! At a basic level it would filter content based on the content rating to hide Mature and Adult rated content.

Hey!
Thanks for your feedback. The app displays what you’d also see in your web browser. So if you enable SFW mode on your FA account, this will only pull new content tagged with general rating. Is this enough for your needs or not?

I mentioned « new » content because the app keeps previously loaded submissions in the feed, including nsfw ones, until you restart the app. This is currently a limitation of the app.

Or did you mean the ability to change the FA account setting related to sfw mode from the app?

Or just a filter in the app without affecting the account settings ?
If so, should it fully prevent nsfw (filter submissions feed + block nsfw links) or a filter on the feed is enough?

Yeah I was thinking of having a filter just on anything that has a content rating on FA, since it should come with it? I think being able to change the FA account setting on the app might also be enough but given that previous nsfw posts will still remain in the app I feel like it would still be better to have a filter.

Hey @peaceknight05 ,
I'm exploring several options that would not require fetching again data from furaffinity.net when you change this setting. So I think it'll purely be a display setting, without touching your FA account settings. Based on this, it can easily be applied to previously loaded submissions as well.

When the SFW setting changes:

  • Option 1: hide NSFW items from the feed and fail loading if you open links to NSFW submissions.
  • Option 2: replace each NSFW item from the feed with some message telling that they currently cannot be displayed according to your settings. If you open a link to a NSFW submission, the image can also be replaced with such a message.
  • Option 3a: keep NSFW items but blur them. Same behavior between the feed and when opening a link to a submission.
  • Option 3b: same as 3a but you get an option (eg. menu through long press) to still open it.

Option 3 is the one I find the most satisfying design-wise, but I'm afraid that it'll still draw the attention too much: people around would probably guess why this is blurred. Although this is how it works in Discord for spoiler images.

Option 1 is obviously the most discreet but in this case you'll also not know which submissions you have missed.

In any case, I feel like an option is missing to be able to come back to submissions you have missed due to the rating setting. Like a filter to show ONLY NSFW submissions in the feed?

What do you think?

Here are a few possible screenshots for option 3 (I don't know yet if it's a good idea to blur the avatar/title/artist name) :
