you can link this to #1509/1506 if you want. i didn't post this here because that one was already up, but this has a bit more data and the root cause of the issue.

Targets debuffed with Countdown (99516) have a much wider radius of spreading Tormented (99257) to (and catching Tormented from) other players.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create 3 level 85 toons blahblahblah and set raid difficulty to Heroic.
  2. Teleport to Firelands and engage Baleroc (53494).
  3. Wait for Shards of Torment (99259) to spawn and have 1 toon each soak Torment (99256) to get the Tormented (99257) debuff.
  4. Wait for Countdown (99516) to be cast on them (but not the un-tormented character (I never said it would be easy to type this up in standard QA Inspector bug form)) and have a character afflicted with both Tormented and Countdown pass within ~5-6 yards (depending on if this goes off of combat reach or center of hitbox) of the unaffected player.
  5. —> Tormented (99257) is applied to a character outside of the intended affected reach of the debuff if a character with Tormented AND Countdown (99516) passes within 6 yards of them.

Here’s a handy Twitch clip that shows the bug happening (if I can even post links, probably not): https://www.twitch.tv/tyrant_psi/clip/ColorfulSnappyFennelDeIlluminati-7B_9fAuRXIdnyzIf 27

In this pull, when Countdown was applied at 01:59.668 into the fight, the players afflicted with Tormented and their spatial coordinates were:
Dize (X: 53.01 Y: 56.57)
Firarat (X: 50.13 Y: 82.73)
Ktitan (X: 78.09 Y: 92.67)
Joeyzz (X: 76.72 Y: 87.01)
Dookiewook (X: 61.98 Y: 55.87)
Benafar (X: 85.15 Y: 88.59)
Suprasated (X: 66.38 Y: 71.93)
Moobieshtoo (X: 70.79 Y 57.70)
Borahdk (X: 53.71 Y: 105.78)

Layonmyhands (X: 56.02 Y: 84.43) is linked with Dize (X: 53.01 Y: 56.57) by Countdown (). At the time, Firarat was the closest debuffed person to him, at about 6.13 yds away (see SS 1 and 2 below). At 02:01.276, Layonmyhands (X: 56.05 Y: 83.47) has Tormented applied to him. The closest candidate to spread the debuff is still Firarat, around a distance of 5.76 yds (X: 51:09 Y: 80.54) (see SS 3 and 4 below).

Directly before this, Firarat had taken a tick of Torment that applied the debuff at 01:43.427. He got as close to another player (Squidshout) as ~6.19 yds (X: 45.59 Y: 81.99 to X: 49.57 Y: 86.74), although neither had Countdown (see SS 5 and 6 below).

As Layonmyhands reaches point X: 58.26 Y: 75.45 and is still debuffed with Countdown, he passes the debuff to Idiotbox (X: 52.86 Y: 74.01) and Boox (X: 53.46 Y: 72.54), a distance of 5.59 yds and 5.61 yds, respectively.

However, on the pull before this, Ttyrant got as close as 3.73 yds (X: 54.50 Y: 55.81 to X: 58.20 Y: 56.23) from another player with Tormented while neither had Countdown and did not spread the debuff.

BTW, there’s another bug with Countdown and Tormented that I don’t feel like writing up again, so here’s a bonus: Countdown (99516) will continuously refresh Tormented (99257) on afflicted players.

6.1.

Differences from Normal Mode
There are two main differences from normal mode which cause this encounter to have slightly altered strategy and positioning, but in essence, the fight does not change drastically.

If a player affected by Tormented comes in melee contact with another player, the debuff will spread (with a full duration).
Baleroc gains a new ability, called Countdown 1. This links two random (non tank) raid members together, and if after 8 seconds the two players have not come within 4 yards of each other (dispelling the link), they will explode for over 85,000 Fire damage each to everyone within 100 yards, essentially wiping the raid.
^^ This is how it used to be. ‘melee contact’, etc.

Pending approval for two weeks... Guess they're back to completely ignoring Cata.
