What is the title of your workshop
Breaking down features / user-journey mapping
What are the key topics that will be covered in the workshop?
In the Decomposition module, sprint 1 is spent building and deploying a quote server, where users can view quotes, and add quotes. All of the features, code, and steps are explained one-by-one. There is a single coursework exercise: Do all the things.
In sprint 2, the trainees have a project: Build a chatroom. We do not give them much guidance about this process. They have one big coursework ticket for the project, and a coursework exercise to refine the big ticket into smaller ones.
In sprint 1, we want a workshop to teach them how to refine a whole project into a series of user journeys, and associated tickets.
We could either do this as a retrospective exercise ("let's break down the quote server you're currently working on"), or a forward-looking one ("let's talk about the chat server you're about to start working on").
What knowledge does the trainee need before starting?
Has worked on projects before.
What are the topics that will not be covered in the workshop?
Prioritising the tickets, comparing their value, going too deep into estimation.
Any other notes?
Ideally I'd like this to fit inside 90 minutes. Less is fine too.
