  1. ESMValTool supports all CMIP6 models and quite a bit of other data, see Obtaining Input Data in the documentation. There is no default per se, but individual recipes may use different defaults.
  2. The data standard we work with for CMIP6 is the data as published on ESGF. If you are using a climate oriented super computer that is shared with others, chances are your local admins have already downloaded an archive of usable data. If you are only using your own computer, you can make use of ESMValTool's download feature to acquire the data automatically.
