It appears backups stop entirely after a period of time
I need to restart the docker in order for it to resume

Is your schedule set to "continuously" in the Backblaze Settings?

Yes it is on

There has been another unexplainable issues (#4) and it got somehow fixed by basing the docker image on ubuntu 18.
Until i can figure out what the root cause of the issue is, I released a ubuntu 18 based version under the docker tag ubuntu18.
Can you test if it fixes your issue as well ? (by installing it with a new configuration folder, because downgrading with the same config folder might not work)

Hi, I'm having (what I believe) is the same issue. Will try to use the Ubuntu 18 based version but thought I'd mention that in my case when the backup freezes the container is using exactly 4gb of ram (as reported by Portainer. I have 12gb in my system).
Will report back with results from the Ubuntu 18 build.

The Ubuntu 18 build fails at the same point with nearly identical usage stats as Ubuntu 20.
Both freeze up for me after about a day of running.

I'm on Ubuntu 18 and though it isn't every single day, I do find that the Backblaze app seems to crash about every 24 hours on most days. WINE/VNC seem to be up, but there's no app window.

I woke up this morning to an example of this happening; here's a screenshot:

Can you relaunch the main Backblaze window over the small backblaze logo in the upper left corner with a right click ? (not in the header, the one in the VNC region)

I'll give that a whirl next time it happens. I believe the VNC session is unresponsive to user input, but I'll definitely try it again and let you know.

No dice; VNC (via the web) comes up quickly but the icon in the tray does not respond to user input.

Hi I'm having the same issue.
I do have a cheaky work around, I set backblaze to continuous backup and I use the user scripts addon to schedule a restart every 3 hours to prevent the ram usage getting too high and the program from freezing.

I now have this issue myself, for now the only "solution" is to periodically restart the container. I have looked into many possible solutions, but have not found anything so far. This was introduced by a Backblaze client update.

If you have issues with Backblaze stopping the Backup after a while, but the VNC still working, try downgrading to earlier versions, the problem seems to have been introduced in a update of the Backblaze Client.

AFAIK I cannot leagally redistribute any backblaze installer binary (which the docker container doesn't btw.), but I found two likely suitable versions in the InternetArchive:
8.0.1.565 (captured November 1, 2021)
8.0.1.581 (captured April 2, 2022)

(the current version is 8.0.1.595)

There are releases between that, but they were not archived. I have tested, if downgrading the client works, but with a different version in between the two and it worked, but I cannot guarantee it.

Downgrading can be done by downloading the older installer into a directory the docker can read, executing it with the wine command and clicking install.

You can download old versions directly at https://secure.backblaze.com/api/install_backblaze?file=bzinstall-win32-<version>.exe, e.g. https://secure.backblaze.com/api/install_backblaze?file=bzinstall-win32-8.0.1.595.exe. However, it seems not all versions are still available.

Nice, thanks for sharing this. It could come in handy :)

I'm having the same issue. Do you recomend a good version to download that works?

This URL for downloading old versions does not seem to work any longer. Has anyone had any luck getting an older version?

That seems like the version history is just down temporarily.
