What's the supposed benefit to the Third-party Compatibility toggle in newer Tapo app version?

It seems to me that some users need that toggle to be able to control their camera?

Are there any other benefits?

2 weeks late on this one, but: if you're on newer firmware than 1.3.7 (for the Tapo C200, don't know about others), it's 100% mandatory - TP-Link added the toggle in the app specifically to support use cases like this integration, as a change made at some point after 1.3.7 addressing a security issue broke the ability to use this integration with Tapo cameras.

See #551 for additional context - TP-Link did exactly what I expected them to do, in the end they did the right thing for the user but for some reason just took a unusually long time to do it. They did as such previously with adding manual IP settings to address DHCP issues with the cameras, somehow it took them 2 years after complaints on their support forum to just add static IP + manual DNS & gateway settings to them.
