The product (ledger unplugged) seemed to be well reviewed, and javacard is obviously a solid well tested technology. Why was this discontinued? I can't find any explanation. If there were technical reasons, it would be good to know. However, if it was lack of iphone compatibility, that makes sense.

@nikolobok likewise ... was surprised to read:

The Ledger Unplugged has been discontinued and is not available on our online store.
https://ledger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005171305-General-Ledger-Unplugged-FAQ

The cards can be purchased here, unpopulated:

I was hoping to sort out exactly what lead the team to stop work on this product. I am glad they have made this source available.

Wild guess: the features wanted from a "modern hardware bitcoin wallet" are not easy to fulfill with a quite traditional and often modest JavaCard platforms, that are commercially available (and the added extra cost from the JC platform does not add to the baseline when compared to bare platforms)

There is no screen and thereby no trusted human interface.

That looks really interesting. Are there prototypes available, as I think the skepticism level towards crowdfunding projects is very high, as is ICO.

Yes, you could find video of hardware prototype at the site.
Also you could order one, just mail to the address at the bottom and ask.
