other resolutions change dissorction, the screenshot is from 1080p
720p works good, 4k works good, 2k works good, some customs resolutions are having similar effects to 1080p, some are making image completely broken

eg. 2256x1504 provided me image like that:

I also tried different source displays - internal macbook display and virtual display provided by BetterDummy app

Just in case people are not aware, if you use 16:10 resolutions on the client this won't happen.

also encountered this problem on my mbp 14'(m1 pro). after doing some experiments I solved it:

  • the aspect ratio of the client and the host should be the same
  • in my case change the host's aspect ratio to 16: 9 and set resolution to 720p/1080p/2k/4k/anything 16:9 in moonlight works well
  • I use tools like Better Display to change host's resolution
