If the directory location along with the filename was stored with the freeze slot it would allow a game that is multi-load or requires further disk access for saving a highscore to work without issue. Otherwise the file has to reside in the root directory, considering how many potential freeze slots are possible, even a very small number that require this, would result in a messy root directory!

Alternatively another option may be to simply allow all freeze slots to be assigned a global freeze directory, this would keep things tidy and allow any game that requires further disk access to work without issue. As any game files required would simply be copied to this directory by the user.
