New feature description in words:
RRIDs are identifiers in the SciCrunch database of research resources, e.g.
https://zbmath.org/software/4557 (ggplot2) has one at https://scicrunch.org/resolver/RRID:SCR_014601 .
They are meant to be used primarily in papers, and if this is properly done, they facilitate mining for the corresponding resources, both by SciCrunch (which currently states "We found 25275 mentions in open access literature", while swMATH has "347 Documents" for it) and by others.

TODOS:

  • check which swMATH packages already have an entry in the RRID registry
  • match this with Research Resource Identifier (P1644) statements on the MaRDI portal
  • add missing packages to SciCrunch

Considered Alternatives:

  • The status quo is to ignore RRIDs. However, they are gaining traction in biomedicine and related fields, and registering math-related resources there in a systematic fashion increases the findability of these resources.

Checklist for this issue:

  • Participants in discussion have been invited as assignees
  • All fields of the issue have been filled
  • Example fields have been removed
  • The main MaRDI project has been assigned to this issue

@Daniel-Mietchen do you have experience searching in this database?
For CRAN packages the best I have achieved is this: https://rrid.site/data/source/nlx_144509-1/search?q=CRAN&l=CRAN
where I get 211 hits for potential CRAN packages listed in SciCrunch.
But for the rest of swMath items we have in our knowledge graph, I don't know if there is a better alternative than just search by name individually. I was wondering if there would be some sort of SPARQL endpoint or equivalent to make the search more efficient.
