After uninstalling the "Insight on Things" app, I noticed a file in my Windows user folder named ".insight". I opened this file with Sublime Text to find a JSON object that contains the plain text information I used during the initial setup of "Insight on Things" including my AWS endpoint, Admin Access Key ID, and Admin Secret Key in PLAIN TEXT!

This method Insight on Things uses needs to change to include the following:

  1. Uninstalling Insight on Things REMOVES ALL FILES
  2. User is informed that credential information will be stored in a local file AND given the option to choose the file location or at least informed where the installation will place the file
  3. Ideally, the credential info would be locally encrypted and decrypted by Insight on Things so the file does not contain plain text credentials
