Bill of Materials

For this device you do not need an Arduino or equivalent microprocessor. Do make sure you have enough 3mm material to cut the design from and a bunch of M3 10mm bolts and nuts for the assembly.

Must have

No Amount Description Supplier NL Cost
1 1 80 mm Fan Farnell, EOO 3.35
2 2 Permanent magnets Supermagnete 0.85
3 1 Potentiometer 100 ohm 2W Farnell, RS Online 6.34
4 4 Power switch Farnell, iPrototype 2.35
5 1 DC power jack Farnell, EOO 0.85
6 1 7.5 W power supply iPrototype, EOO 12.50
7 1 Red LED Farnell, EOO, iPrototype 0.15
8 1 470 ohm resistor Farnell, iPrototype, EOO 0.04
9 1 Magnetic stirring rod Hinmeijer 3.21
10 4 Rubber feet Conrad 0.10
11 1 Heating foil Sparkfun, Conrad 4.50
12 3 68 Ohm 5W Power resistors Farnell 0.37
13 1 Superglue SuperMagnete 8.08

Estimate total: EUR 42.69

Alternatives

  • You could use all kind of motors, for example from a hard drive.
  • Take a USB coffee mug heater apart for the heating foil or use a cheap power resistor to save money
