What will happen in your session?
The number of electric cars has been rapidly increasing due to the environmental and energy security concerns. In this session we will explore the differences between an electric and a gasoline car by taking road trips! The participants will form groups of 2-3 people. Each group will be assigned basic information of trips such as cities, distances, gas stations or electric vehicle charging stations. Additionally, each group will receive a specific number of beans (gas) and lentils (energy in the battery) to simulate the gas or energy in the car. Our explorers will discover if their resources are enough, if they need to take another path to save energy. Each group will "draw" their decisions for a successful trip!
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
Participants will gain basic knowledge about electric versus gasoline cars. They will understand the impact of gasoline cars on the environment and the increasing value of the electric cars or generally green technologies. At the same time, they will realize the problem of range anxiety of an electric car and the need for more infrastructure to support the electric vehicle introduction into the market. Lastly, through this game, participants will touch a bit of decision-making, problem solving, and optimization.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
