Canonicalize raw XML descriptions

Feature request

The descriptions for Text and Private are initially the raw XML string representing the element. I'd like that string to be canonicalized in order to get closer to the meaning of the element and further away from the happenstance of document encoding, disregarding e.g. differences in attribute order, meaningless whitespace, or text encoding.
