On a distribution, particularly deployed via CI (where caching can be an issue) it would be good to be able to update a version, visible in the distribution somewhere (e.g. the menu or the top right corner) by changing a variable or declaring something in a json file.

It would also be good to be able to see each plugin and its version, which I think is pretty normal for things which distribute plugins.

Ideally with the ability to copy and paste into issues.

This is useful to:

  • know that a new version is deployed successfully
  • provide user facing feedback (am I on the latest version, is bug X fixe in version Y?)
  • allow comparison between different distributions

I very understandable feature wish. I must be honest, it might take a while. In the distribution, we are working with build outputs for some plugins, which does not allow us to have a version as in the plugins.json. It might then be a bit tricky to implement and does not go - at least so I think - without a new agreement for the plugin author. I would like to wait for our wizard @ca-d to come back and talk that issue through with him. Is that alright with you?
