The default background is a simple blue/green gradient which will be familiar to former Metro for Discord users. You can change the background, however you should be aware of the following:

  • For performance reasons the backdrop filter is disabled by default.

    • 240px of blur is extreme and might make Discord laggy on low-end machines. This is just a downside of CSS.
    • Simpler wallpapers can use a much lower amount of blur
    • You can try combat this by turning on 'Enable Reduced Motion' in the Accessibility settings.
  • If you can't use the filters try these tips:

    • A good work-around is to find a gradient background image with a similar colour profile to the wallpaper you would ordinarily use (see links section below).
    • If you don't want to use the filters or a gradient background, use a simpler wallpaper, otherwise chat will be hard to read.

Hosting

You can upload your image to a channel in your own private Discord server if you have one. Otherwise imgur is an OK alternative. Note that Imgur may delete your image after a period of time.
