This is most obvious when comparing two items that have nearly identical stats without including gems, such as Vengeance Wrap (https://tbc.wowhead.com/item=24259/vengeance-wrap) and Cloak of the Pit Stalker (https://tbc.wowhead.com/item=28777/cloak-of-the-pit-stalker)

Current Back: vengeance_wrap
Upgrade: black_iron_battlecloak ( +11 ± 2.1 DPS).
Upgrade: cloak_of_the_pit_stalker ( +3.4 ± 1.5 DPS).

Gems are now saved in config file on 1a7c9f2. The socket bonus will follow suit.
