No way around it, the future of Every Door is vector tiles. They would help reduce the bandwidth, deal with POI duplication, allow for dark mode, and make the map more accessible.

Since with #119 it will be possible to change vector tile styling, maybe we should package slightly more data than bare minimum?..

Hey @Zverik,
In case you were waiting to see what FM does, there is some development going on in the community. In the existing plugin, improvements are still being tried to see how much performance it is possible to squeeze out of it. There's an issue to track performance on the vector plugin.
There is also some interesting happenings regarding using flutter_gpu in a new plugin which you can find talked about in the OpenStreetMap US Slack. I have seen some early results and they are very promising, but it is still early days yet and may take a while (or never 😂). That project isn't even published yet.
