I will keep this issue open until the chat bug has been fixed.
Is there anything either myself or my community can do to help with this? We've noticed some strange things in our testing. The chat client will not always crash when somebody either leaves the multiplayer server browser or hosts a game, but it's fairly consistent. It seems it tries to display a reason for leaving, sometimes it's intelligible, sometimes it's a scrawl of random ascii characters and often times it will crash the game with a C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION. It's always the same error message, and we have logs/can reproduce it.
We have identified some issues with the peerchat server code, which I'm pretty confident are causing this issue even without doing any further investigation into this particular game. When those bugs are addressed, I'll revisit this one to make sure that this game is also fixed, and if not, investigate further.
