max72xx-spin

This is a P8X32A/Propeller, P2X8C4M64P/Propeller 2 driver object for MAX7219/21 LED display drivers.

IMPORTANT: This software is meant to be used with the spin-standard-library (P8X32A) or p2-spin-standard-library (P2X8C4M64P). Please install the applicable library first before attempting to use this code, otherwise you will be missing several files required to build the project.

Salient Features

  • SPI connection at 1MHz or ~25kHz (P1 PASM, bytecode SPI), up to 10MHz (P2)
  • 7-segment (up to 8-digit) LED display
  • Brightness control
  • standard terminal I/O (putchar(), etc)

Requirements

P1/SPIN1:

  • spin-standard-library
  • terminal.common.spinh (provided by the spin-standard-library)

P2/SPIN2:

  • p2-spin-standard-library
  • terminal.common.spin2h (provided by the p2-spin-standard-library)

Hardware compatibility

  • Tested with 8-digit MAX7219-based displays

Limitations

  • Doesn't yet support dot-matrix displays
  • Doesn't yet support chaining multiple displays
  • BCD mode can be enabled, but isn't supported by the terminal I/O routines
