Following feed preferences and feed.getTimeline

Since the Following feed preferences seem to be a per-account setting now, as opposed to per-device, it seems like they should apply to the feed.getTimeline API endpoint as well, at least as an option. They currently don't.

It seems like this is something that should be happening, but isn't, so I wasn't sure whether to report it as a bug or a feature request.
