if there a multiple channels, which one should it join? I love the idea of automatically opening the channel on user open though!

Sorry was not clear here:
If you have a channel open on one user, then switch to a different user, the current channel will reopen.
If the other user does not have that channel, then the top channel will open.

The only downside is you might accidentally switch users (cat clicking mouse) and not notice, but i like this a lot

just a thought, maybe display the username slightly more promptly? something like this could be kinda cool? maybe associate a color with a user?
