Feature description

I would like to define my flat as a "no tracking" zone to avoid matches with neighbors I never meet in reality. Feature could be optional because location tracking with the help of mobile and wifi networks would be necessary. Or I just install some beacons in my flat ;-).

Problem and motivation

The problem is a bit related to Wishlist issue 233. I got from one day to another 10 matches and I rarely leave the house, do not meet any people and do not stay anywhere longer except a couple of minutes. I keep social distancing very strict and 10 matches do not fit at all to the reality of my behaviour. So I guess one of my neighbors got positive tested. With the help of Beacon-Scope I can detect quite many beacons inside my flat.

Maybe could become difficult if the tracking can't be turned off through the API and the only option would be to turn off bluetooth.

This topic came into my mind today and I think it is actually very important one! Let me explain:

I know some people that work as medical health staff and some of them also treat COVID-positive people. These friends don't use the app 😱 Why? Well, because it would be red constantly. But: In my opinion it is essential for all people in hospital that they use them. Imagine a nurse uses the app but it always reports high risk because she treats COVID-positive patients. Of course she's not ill because she wears protective clothing. Now when she has a real risky encounter in non-wok life they would not recognize it since their app is already red! This is a big problem since they bring the infection to the hospital.

This all means we must work towards encouraging hospital staff to use the app, which means in turn we have to enable them to disable exposure tracking, automatically using geofencing, in the hospital area.

I hope the responsible people read this!

@Blackjacx you might also want to check out #251 which is about this distinction problem for healthcare workers 🙂.

@Ein-Tim issue #108 is a specialization of this one. This issue treats the topic generically which I consider as much better than adding special features for multiple employee groups. I went through all open issues and this is the most generic one dealing with this issue. I even opt closing the other ones and reference on this one.

What about guests to your house? Turning it off will increase the probability that you will forget to turn the geofencing off when you get a guest. Also, AFAIK Apple doesn't allow apps using the contact tracing APIs to also use any geolocation APIs.

The neighbor issue should be solved already by the distance calculation algorithm, the wall should be helpful here.

Thus a 👎 from me.
