Taskbar Mini Player

I want to create a mini player that stands quietly in your taskbar.
Something like what MediaMonkey and the Zune desktop application already have:

But I don't have any idea how these things work. I know they are called BandObjects, and I know that Microsoft is not supporting them anymore... but hey! these guys are capable of making it work, so why not?

Any help will be appreciated.
