Hi there,

My previous thread was closed (#1083) but unfortunately this was not answered - How can I disable the nightlight?

I've gone through the wiki, the AGS wiki, poked around ~/.config/ags/modules/ and .configuration but I cannot see where it's controlled. Thanks.

Why do you want to remove it anyway? I mean, it's a switchable button, just press it as you want.

If you want to disable it permanently anyway,

• Simple method: just uninstall gammastep via sudo pacman -Rdd gammastep.
• Another method: edit ~/.config/ags/modules/sideright/quicktoggles.js and remove the related part.

P.S. How do I know which file? Well, the answer is to use ack to search for it, i.e. run ack -Ss nightlight under ~/.config/ags.

Currently the behaviour is that it's enabled every time I start my computer - I assumed it was auto-enabled based on a timer since I am awake during the night and asleep during the day. I wanted to find the documentation or where it was configured so that I could understand how it works and modify/configure it. AGS wasn't used in the last rice config I used so this is a learning curve for me.

In my mind, modifying the behaviour (if I am correct and it's configured with a timer) is safer than outright removing it as I don't know how that would affect other UI elements and it would still be there should I ever want to turn it on manually.

I did see it under ~/.config/ags/modules/sideright/quicktoggles.js but didn't see any configuration for when it's enabled automatically. Maybe I've been overthinking this.

Thanks for suggesting ack, I installed it and found all the references. I'll poke through the files to see if I can find any configuration, if not I'll just uninstall it outright.

Anyway, the proper solution if you dont want nightlight to be enabled by default is to go to ~/.config/hypr/hyprland/execs.conf and remove & gammastep from this line

exec-once = /usr/lib/geoclue-2.0/demos/agent & gammastep

(all the button on the sidebar does is run gammastep if it's not running, kill otherwise)
