There is a new evm tests repo: https://github.com/ethereum/execution-spec-tests. Going forward new tests will be added there instead of ethereum/tests (see here).

It looks like these tests use the same state / blockchain tests format as ethereum/tests, so hopefully integration into our existing test runner shouldn't be too challenging.
