I like to really understand a problem so usually start with research (Google) as my first port of call; whether that's to better understand a topic, seek inspiration or google whether a certain JS method exists
I'm very much a people person. I particularly appreciate a sense of camaraderie and like to enjoy the people with whom I work.
I've been really energised by all the pair programming I've done so far
I've been known to talk out loud as I'm working through something - let me know if you find me doing this and it annoys you!
On the flip side, I also like to focus with my head down - listening to a podcast or music helps
I love to use a range of materials and methods to help me learn - videos, articles etc and I look forward to trying podcasts, too!
I have some perfectionist tendencies which I'm working on.. it's a journey!
The role I usually take in a team:
I'm comfortable being both leader and follower. I can take initiative and am also good at following instructions
I think I'm pretty good at bringing people together and ensuring that everyone is on the same page and comfortable
I can be quick to suggest ideas and potential directions to take something, but please know that I'm not at all precious about them. I love how ideas are enhanced or streamlined by multiple viewpoints
I'm quite research-driven and analytical, and potential risks and issues are usually something of which I am aware
My communication style:
Energetic, compassionate and respectful
Adaptable
I can be a little 'extra', as the kids say
I avoid confrontation like the proverbial plague
What I value:
Empathy, generosity of spirit and a positive attitude. Also, krispy kreme original glazed
Friends, family, food
What people misunderstand about me:
I say things like "really great!" and "thank you so much!" which can sound so effusive that it seems disingenuous - it's sincere
My eczema flares up at night so I'm often not the most well-rested person.. this can mean I zone out occasionally - nothing personal
How I like to get my feedback:
Clear, honest and constructive
I like to go deep and understand the hows and whys
I respond best when negative feedback is expressed in a positive way
I love getting feedback
Really looking forward to working with you!
This was quite difficult to write and I'm sure I'm completely wrong about many things... if you think you get a sense of how I actually work and communicate I'd genuinely for real love to hear it, either in the comments or IRL.
