Is it possible to keep the MARC record with this tool? #71
Comments
Hi Lisa, my recollection is, that loading the MARC into SRS prevented us from setting the Instance, holdings and items data as desired in Inventory. I have not followed the developments in Data Import so I don't really know the state of SRS today, and whether it would be problematic in any way to establish a parallel track in OIT for getting MARC into SRS (while also getting the desired data into Acquisitions). I guess we would have to try it to find out. |
Hi Lisa and Niels, |
Okay, thank you Jacquie. |
Thank you both. I'll try to find out whether or not loading a MARC record as MARC and not FOLIO into the SRS prevents the creation of holdings and item. |
I just posed this question on whether or not an order import is possible with an instance, holdings and item while maintaining the MARC record and all necessary acq info. I will report back here if something answers. |
The initial version of the order import tool maintained the imported MARC record. I remember when the tool changed to only bring in a FOLIO record, and that there was a reason it was difficult to keep the MARC, but I don't remember that reason. I regret the loss of this functionality at this point. At Lehigh we try to get the best record in, in the best condition in the first place for most of our basic copy cataloging type records. Is it possible to offer this as well - to enable a library to select one or the other - FOLIO or MARC records?
