Add new user via Plex who isn't a member of Plex server

Hello, I'm relatively new to Authentik, and using it with NPM on my humble homelab.

I have Plex setup as a source for login, and was able to add my spouse as a user, who is a member of my shared Plex server. I'd like to now add a friend to as another user, but this friend isn't on my Plex server. I selected Allow friends to authenticate via Plex, even if you don't share any servers as an option in the Plex source. However, when friend attempts to login for the first time, they receive an access denied error.

My ideal solution is that they login via plex and it creates a user for me, which I can then bind to certain apps. Any help is appreciated!

Ahh, I hadn't added them as a friend in Plex as well, I'm new to Plex and didn't know this was a function. For anyone else finding themselves here, go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/friends and add the person as a friend here first.
