[FEATURE REQUEST] Images are slow to load on the provenance page

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Loading the thumbnail images of the records is very slow. I noticed the original image is downloaded for the thumbnail (a few megabytes each).

Describe the solution you'd like
The thumbnail images should load almost instantly. If they are still loading there should be something showing me that the image is loading.

Describe alternatives you've considered
I could make the pictures smaller before I upload them, but it would be easier if the app did it for me.
