Hi all,

Nice enhancement to the worldmap-panel. Fixes the issues when visualising on the light theme.

Have you considered the option of a satellite type map, a la google maps?

Apologies if this has been asked and answered.
Failing that, how to apply a satellite map overlay. Sometimes, when you're displaying maps in, say, Europe, it can be hard to see the target country.

Thanks for reporting back.

There is no need to apologize. On this topic, #11 and #26 come to my mind. Would that fit your needs?

With kind regards,
Andreas.

Hi, thanks for replying so quickly. In answer to your question...

Well, yeah, they would. Not sure I understand what's being referred to here.

I see leaflets mentioned. I see svet-b alluding (in a comment from 2019) to editing worldmap_ctrl.ts. This file doesn't seem to exist in grafana 8 anywhere, or the current plugins *worldmap and your own).

I see a reference to geomap moving into grafana core - doesn't look like it's there yet. Next release?

Are you saying, it's in the pipeline? Are you saying it's in someone elses's pipeline?

Not trying to be a pest here, just trying to understand what I do about this.

Again, thanks for the plugin as developed. Really helpful.

Regards,

---=Laurie

Dear Laurie,

thank you for asking and following some of the conversations.

Not trying to be a pest here, just trying to understand what I do about this.

No worries and apologies that my answer wasn't clear enough. I will try to elaborate a bit more, please feel free to ask again.

Do you refer to #108? I believe an early version of Geomap just arrived with Grafana 8.1.0 already. However, I didn't have the chance to follow this development recently. While I am very much looking forward to evaluating the new Geomap panel, I still believe we will continue to maintain our Worldmap panel fork for a while, until Geomap proves to be en par with all the features available here.

Are you saying, it's in the pipeline?

I referenced #11 here because a) @svet-b apparently also needed this feature and was so kind to share his patch with us and b) to outline that you will find an idea how to do it in the gist of his patch, if you are curious to modify and build the source code on your own behalf.

Are you saying it's in someone elses's pipeline?

My intention to reference #26 was to outline that a) others also reported about similar needs in the past already and that b), I discovered the Leaflet-provider addon the other day. Using this addon would be my favourite solution to implement this in a flexible manner, enabling panel editors or even users to choose which tile server to use on their own behalf.

The fine leaflet-providers is an extension to Leaflet that contains configurations for various free tile providers. You can see it in action on Leaflet Provider Demo.

With kind regards,
Andreas.
