Hello, @freeplant

I know the suggestions of thumbnail creation in background are put as low priority but it's getting more important or is a deciding factor among using seafile or other cloud hosting software. I really like Seafile v12.0.x so far hence I would love to have this thumbnail issue sorted out sooner rather than later.

The problem now is that the thumbnail is generated on-the-fly and the killing factor is that there's no option to have them to be processed in bulk or batched eg. generate 5 thumbnails at once.

Appreciate if thumbnail improvement can be put as higher priority amongst other improvements.

Thank you in advanced and for the hard work :)

In version 13.0, there will be a separate docker component for thumbnail generating (thumbnail server) to increase performance. It will also better support thumbnails for videos.

But we don't have a plan to do the thumbnail creation in the background, because it will create unnecessary thumbnails.

Agreed with the approach on not having it running in the background (like what Immich does but it's a photo gallery app so it's different).

Glad that improvement is coming, thanks once again!!
