I'd eventually like to be able to generate a list of good "basecamp hikes". These are hikes where you spend 1-2 days to travel into the woods, set up camp, and then have a selection of day hikes available to you.
Taylor Meadows and Magog Lake are nice examples of this kind of hike in BC.
Could/should the basemap layer do anything to make generating such a list easier? Unclear if we should be interrogating the pmtiles directly, or using real GIS tools.
I lean towards a model that builds on top of the pmtiles because:
it encourages me to put useful data into the pmtiles (e.g. features we want, ranking information)
it's probably tooling that will be needed in general for client-side routing
