Configurable diverging colormap for the thickness contours.

hints:
http://www.sandia.gov/~kmorel/documents/ColorMaps/ -> the excel spreadsheet contains the algorithms for calculation. Looks like the easiest is to use the Mag/Sat/Hue algorithm, it seems that the rest is based on these values.
