Cursory literature search revealed two recent algorithms which might be worth investigating:

NuOscProbExact (possibly improved upon in https://inspirehep.net/literature/2697207)
- fully in Python
NuFast
- fast C++ and Fortran implementations, Python code as "learning tool"

thehrh added enhancement external dependency physics and removed enhancement labels
