Hi, thank you for the instructions! Therefore I downgraded numpy to version 1.26.4, Step2 runs correctly, but then I'm getting error on Step3 (printed only on GUI): and on the terminal the only printed text is: I don't understand where exactly the threshold is given as argument, and how to fix it. |

Sorry, haven't found the time yet to check and will likely not get back to my Mac today. But I'll promise to check tomorrow. First thing I realize with your pip freeze is that you seem to run noScribe and the noScribeEditor from the same environment. There might be conflicting packages. Better make one environment for noScribe and a separate for noScribeEditor. We use Python3.9 for noScribe and Python3.10 for noScribeEditor. |

I reckon this is just a little past my current abilities to install this on Open SUSE. However, I just wanted to say thank you for the effort in providing these instructions and I hope that this comes to Linux via packages at some point. It would be a really useful tool to have. |

hello, I am a bit unsure about editing the noScribe.py file. I have to say, I have no experiences with coding, but the fact that edit line 566 reads: 'return' and 567 reads 'program: str = None' made me a bit unsure about whether or not the code lines are still the same now as they have been in september 2024, when the instructions were published. Here are the lines 558-584 in the noScribe.py file. If someone could tell me where the editing is required, that would help a lot. Thank you! |

Hi, I will try to revise the Linux install instruction once the new release is officially here (and maybe even try to build an appimage package for easy install), so if you're not really comfortable with editing python scripts on your own and you're okay waiting a bit, that would probably be your best option. You can also follow the instructions above without editing the py file. Those edits are not essential, they only provide for a seamless integration between the transcribing program and the editing program. You should still be able to use the transcribing program without the edits suggested. |

I do have one and it used to work well with noScribe 0.5. What I don't get is why it start using it with pyannote and get stuck with faster-whisper. The card is definitly used in both process. |

If I got that correct, you are using the systems python. I personally wouldn't recommend that, but it's doable. What version is this btw? However, that means you need to install the CUDA libraries as well. Maybe those are simply outdated. |

Yes, the newer versions of faster-whisper are no longer working with cuda 11 (as far as I remember), but need cuda 12. |

so I tried again with a clean environnement (new venv) but not a complete fresh install, and I get a new kind of error. The process works a bit longer tough and I get more transcript with compatible So I feel like everything is matching... I'll try a fresh install tomorrow. Thanks again for your support! |

Thank you, @Lunix13, for being so patient and persistent. I hope this will lead to a more stable Linux version for everyone in the end. Regarding the Segmentation fault: This might be an issue we had before, see #72 and #75. It might have something to do with the logging in the main window, I'm not sure. As a quick test, you can change the code of noScribe.py on line 787ff. like so (only the "return" is added): This will disable all messages in the main window, so you will see no output until the transcript is finished. Of course, this is not a permanent fix. But it can tell us if the culprit is somewhere within this function. |

Thanks for the confirmation. I had hoped the bug would have been fixed with some recent changes I made, but it's obviously not. I will try to find a better solution that will give you at least some output in the main window. It would be great if you could test it since I cannot reproduce the error locally atm. |

Thanks. Really, this is a very helpful tool for GNU/Linux users. But I'm stuck. I'm using Fedora Linux 41 (Xfce) with 64 bits, in a LenovoV330-15IKB (if this matter). My python version is Python 3.13.2, installed using the package manager (dnf). I did everything in the instructions, but when I do this command:
I get the following output, output.txt. And the following error, What am I missing? I'm new, installing something with Python. Any help is welcome. |

I've been able to install noScribe and noScribeEdit on linux (ubuntu).
Here are the steps I followed : I hope it might help some people (feel free to edit/reuse as you want).
FYI, I've had to make a few very minor edits in order for the two softwares to work well together. (I might make it cleaner and submit pull requests at some points...)
Installation Instructions:
Note : The procedure below uses a python virtual environment
Make sure to have python and pip installed
Download and extract the latest NoScribe sourcecode from https://github.com/kaixxx/noScribe/releases
Download and extract the latest NoScribeEdit sourcecode from https://github.com/kaixxx/noScribeEditor
Put the noScribeEditor inside the NoScribe folder you dowloaded previously, and rename the
noScribeEditorfolder asnoScribeEditOpen a terminal and
cdin the NoScribe directoryEnter the following command lines :
Download all the files from https://huggingface.co/guillaumekln/faster-whisper-large-v2/tree/main to the models/faster-whisper-large-v2 to the models/faster-whisper-large-v2 within your noScribe folder
Download all the files from https://huggingface.co/guillaumekln/faster-whisper-small/tree/main to the models/faster-whisper-small to the models/faster-whisper-small within your noScribe folder
Edit the noScribe.py file as follow in order to be able to open noScribeEditor from noScribe
Edit line 566 so that it reads

If you have a HiDpi screen, noScribe window and font might be very small.
You can add the following lines to the noScribe.py file after line 70
Sidenote : Sometimes, when you select a filename for saving, the "." is missing before the extension by default and this throws an error. Just manually add the dot.
