It would be nice to describe the API using the OpenAPI specification.

It would allow then to generate easily its documentation and even a part of the code thanks to tools like https://openapi-generator.tech (formerly https://swagger.io).

We don't have an API, see #688.

Then we could use an openapi spec to write it no?
