Liberapay doesn't have a moderation system (which led to liberapay/salon#232 recently).

I kind of review system (like https://stackoverflow.com has) to allow Liberapay user to peer review profile on the plateform in order to make sure that no illegal profil use Liberapay for funding.

They could be part of the Liberapay team (or a dedicated one) to get some little income for this work.

We are not lawyers, how can we decide what is illegal? and what jurisdiction is to be used? French, EU? US?

An advanced moderation system wouldn't have prevented the Mangopay crisis.

Related issues: liberapay/liberapay.org#15 (moderation rules) and #353 (allowing anyone to report a problematic account).

I'm leaning towards that even with moderation, it probably wouldn't have prevented the Mangopay issue myself. I'd have to understand if there is any way that we currently have policy in place around that, and how it was handled. The issue is, it is practically impossible to handle with the way Liberapay is currently setup, though there may be hints about it.

Leetchi which is another funding plateform (that created Mangopay then) has a list of activity that is forbidden and that helps them to moderate. They are using a kind of automatic analysis based on this list to trigger human intervention. They told me they could provide me this list.

IMHO #353 is more important than this, and easier to implement.
It just depends on how good you can moderate it yourself. A community-system may be helpful, but is likely no easy thing to do.

Ok so how can we do that? I have my environment setup but I'm not very familiar with the codebase.

After following the discussions about the Mangopay crisis. The reasons are still not clear. Are they too sensitive to be published? Was it money laundering from a user?

@tuxayo The reasons will never be completely clear, even to me.

@tuxayo For me it is very clear: it is the lack of a proper moderation system. Some account like the one cited in my last comment are indeed very controversial. The thing is do we want a moderation system or not?

There is a discussion here about neutrality: liberapay/liberapay.org#40

I also started a report button feature here: #1220

@MartinDelille : out of curiosity, do you have any evidence of that? Did they write it to you? Did you had a phone call conversation? Other?

I can't see any account cited in there or even there.
