Now if I can't find the entity in the DBPedia lookup I have to manually add each property (usually at least label, comment and thumb) and fill it in myself (e.g. copy and paste from the entity page)

It would be great if the add entity option also supported direct URI insertion and then generates the information card just like now via the DBPedia lookup.

I'm thinking especially for non-English DBPedia URIs where the Lookup does not work.
