Calling contabs#project#edit renders neovim unresponsive

This has been happening for awhile, though I didn't really clue in that it was contabs until now.

STR:
:call contabs#project#edit("path/to/dir")

Result:
Neovim freezes up and stops responding to input. I need to kill the process from another window to get out of it. This happens on two different machines (though same init.vim).

I'm on Neovim v0.4.4 and using WSL2.
