In the "Customize Theme" under the "Icons" tab, it should be possible to customize
the Start-here-button (located to the top left).
The icon for the "Ubuntu base" package that frequently gets updated in the in update-manager.
This is important to avoid confusion which desktop environment, and GNU/Linux distribution you are actually running, especially if you are running multiple DEs, and distros.

Numix: The start here button displays a GNOME icon, it would be correct to change it to a MATE icon. The icon for "Ubuntu base" is a Debian icon, it would be correct to change it to an Ubuntu icon.
Steps to reproduce the behaviour
sudo apt install mate-themes
Run update-manager and click on the "Check for Updates" button.
Open mate-appearance-properties -p theme.
