% make HW=mtrace mtrace.out
$ avar onkern
...
$ avar off
$ halt
% ../mtrace/mtrace-tools/mscan --check-gc
False positives:
- Global objects of a type that can be GCed (xnspid).
Workaround: only flag for objects that we see eventually GCed?
Not ideal because objects might not be GCed for a while..
- Touching an object prior to insertion in a data structure (xelem).
Workaround: explicit annotation for when an object becomes "live"?
- Non-epoch reasons for why an object is alive (proc).
Many things touch myproc() without an RCU epoch (cannot GC until exit).
Some things touch a proc while holding the proc lock.
[ Why is 'proc' rcu_freed anyway? ]
Unclear:
- Why is 'file' both rcu_freed and referenced?
This seems to be a bug: a file could be resuscitated after reaching zero!
Need a slightly different form of weak references?
Complication: some file objects are refcached, other are regular referenced.
- Why is 'inode' both rcu_freed and referenced?
Unclear concurrency story, mnode seems more consistent.
Likely bugs:
- condvar::wake_all() and timerintr() could touch a deleted proc
[ but see existing comment in proc.cc:kill() ]
