difficulties reading labels in directory selection widget

Directories will be arbitrarily long and the directory selection widget needs to be able to support this.

Currently, readability is exceptionally low for directories longer than a few folders. Additionally an error is thrown when a directory is selected and no files are detected.

• readability needs improvement
• current directory needs to be displayed somewhere
• error handling needs to be done when selecting a directory with no sxm/dat files
