Using the x- prefix is discouraged since quite some time. Have you considered registering a MIME type without it?

yes, see #21 But it is not very easy to write an RFC, at least none of us has done it before.

@hoegertn are you sure an RFC is necessary? I believe you can simply apply for a Media Type (apparently that's what MIME Types are called now) here.
EDIT: Oh I see, it has to be a recognised standard to not be vnd.…
