Automatically sort bookmarks and folders #2162
Comments
Hello 👋 Thank you for taking the time to open this issue with the bookmarks app. I know it's frustrating when software I look forward to working with you on this issue |
Yes, but that won't automatically sort everything, right? At least the sorting does not happen if I add a new bookmark from by browser and sync using floccus. The newly added bookmark is still at the end of the folder. The sorting only seems to affect the bookmark view in Nextcloud but does not alter the internal order which is also exposed in the API used by floccus. |
ah, yes, the sorting options are a view only feature. They won't affect the ordering of the bookmarks when syncing with floccus, that's true. So, you'd like something like a per-user setting that enforces a certain order. Would you like that to be enforced for all your bookmarks or per folder? |
In my case, I want every folder to be sorted. So it should be enforced for every folder. And the same should also happen for the folders itself. |
Great idea! |
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I want my bookmarks and the folder structure ordered by title to keep them organized.
Describe the solution you'd like
Add some setting to allow the user to define the sorting of the bookmarks and/or folders which should be applied automatically once something changes. As not everyone might want the bookmarks to be reordered automatically, it should be possible to turn it off just like it is today (should probably the default).
The sorting setting should allow the user to select one of "title", "hostname", "last modified", etc.
Describe alternatives you've considered
I'm currently using a browser extension for that job. But sorting the bookmarks on the server side would be better to keep the logic from the browser. That would also allow me to decrease the number of browser extensions being used which is always good.
