The GitHub discussions (which you are using now) can be used to discuss the project. |

It depends what you want to discuss. There are some possibilities (if you're looking for help/support) listed at the bottom of https://github.com/nodejs/node/blob/main/.github/SUPPORT.md. |

I was actually looking for a mailing list for the usage of Node.js, as I am old school software developer and used to using mailing lists rather than feed based IRC or Slack and the horrendous StackOverflow chaos :( |

This doesn't look closed to me. Am I missing something? https://groups.google.com/g/nodejs |

Yeah, it's not terribly active or maybe not active at all, but doesn't appear "closed" (but maybe it is and the appearance is misleading). It is extremely unlikely that there is a highly active mailing list out there (but I could be wrong). Maybe someone else knows of something, but you might be out of luck. (Perhaps you can start your own mailing list? That's probably a lot of work to attract enough attention to get it off the ground, though.)
If you want to try asking (either a question about Node.js or a question about if there are Node.js mailing lists somewwhere out there) in other places, maybe try opening an issue in https://github.com/nodejs/help asking if there's a mailing list. …
