UFS-CAT Team is beginning Round 4 testing, and some testers want to use wave boundary conditions for their domains in SCHISM and FVCOM. We met Oct 10 and discussed approaches for this. @yunfang suggested running the Global WW3 model & extracting necessary BC variables for each model.
@janahaddad thanks for the tag up this morning and suggestion to post here for UFS Coastal Applications Team (CAT) project. Several UFS CAT testers (a couple at Colorado School of Mines, and a couple at Univ of South Florida) are interested in getting WW3 outputs for boundary conditions/forcing for their testing of SCHISM and FVCOM.
The location is Mid-Atlantic Bight (NY/NJ Harbor).
The time periods are:
(June spinup) Jul 1 - Sep 30, 2021: includes hurricanes (Elsa, Henri, Ida)
(Dec '21 spinup) Jan 1 - Mar 31, 2022: includes Nor’easter (Jan 14-17; Jan 28-29)
This is an initial comment to track this issue and start the discussion. Thank you.
@gseroka@memarisa I've created this tickeet to keep track on our end & quickly communicate.
For SCHISM BCs: @memarisa will share lat/lon open boundary nodal info & @yunfangsun will extract the full spectra at those locations from the global run
@yunfangsun will compile and run global ww3 on Frontera
For FVCOM BCs: @yunfangsun will save the full domain wave stats time series from the globan run which can then be interpolated as needed by the testers
