Hello,

I am the owner of a reMix. I would like to print the components of the Blade head because one of my colleges put it into the dish washer. Now it´s not working anymore. So the problems are the 3D printed parts i think. I taught it´s open source and i can reprint. But i did not found it here.

So this means it´s not real open?

Hello openfunk-Team,

I also need the print-files for the blades-head. My wife wants another color then black and I would print it for her. Is there any chance to get the files?

Thx for your help

Hi OpenFunk team! @openfunkHQ

I am also concerned for the availability of the 3d printing files for the head. To be a truly Open Source product all its design files should be made available. Unfortunately in the current state of matters we depend on you for the availability of that critical part.

In the past[1] you mentioned that the head files were going to be available by summer last year, any plan on that?
It would be great to have more transparency from you regarding this issue.
I like to think that there is some technical issue that you are solving or something like that. Could you share with us your current reasoning for not realising the design files and if there is a plan on how to achieve it?

I am really grateful for the enormous effort you are doing to get out a product like this and making it Open Source.
I would just like that you make sure that the product really becomes Open Source and it doesn't end just being one more product using the Open Source flag but not really making it to the final line.

Thanks!

Hi all, thanks for your messages and apologies for the late reply. I got notified by others about your messages, please next time tag me if you want a faster reply. In a nutshell, the past year has been a really challenging year for us, both financially and technically, making it really hard to bring our open source strategy to the next level. We spent most of our time running our production (with very limited capacity) and solving technical challenges along the way. This includes opening the sensitive head files and starting collaborating with others on our open design. There is still safety and technical issues related to opening the head files. As the designer, engineer and owner of those files, I need to find a way to make them safe to use for others as well as overcome the technical and financial aspects related to it. I will look into it in the next few weeks and get back with updates and further transparency on that topic! Thanks for your patience and kind understanding @JuanGrados @maceball @mgiaco Meanwhile if you need any spare parts printed by us and send to you, please let me know.

So I didn´t get what you want to say because you already opened a lot. But I totally understand that it is not so easy to open all because of the financial aspects.
I think also it should not be any problem at all not to open all but why do you say it on the website (Modular, repairable & open-source). I feel that wasn´t the right way then and be careful there are a lot of idiots around making trouble because of that - i am sure this will come.
I mean at least if I am you i would change the text on the website to - mostly open source. And why not only open source the printed parts i mean no one needs the metal parts to be opened. Is good to order from you.
I mean i can live with that now but to be honest as a maker i would not buy reMix again now because i feel a little bit fooled. For me the opensource was a reason to buy. At least to now i can print is nice although mostly i would chose the possibility to order if possible.

Thanks @Kenrofunk for the reply, it is always appreciated to have an open conversation.

I totally get that making the design open source is tricky, both financially and legally (CE certification, liability, etc.).
But I see your endeavours as an exploratory journey, I think this is exactly what you wanted to change from the begging, your main motivation of enabling people to repair and truly own their devices.

So, for now most of your energy is being directed towards the crazy complexities of real manufacturing, which is not easy feat in itself.
However, part of your product, or your selling points for many of us is (or at least was) the open source aspect of it, and right now it feels, just as mgiaco said, like we were a bit fooled. Because for 200-250euros I can buy a semiprofessional machine for which I can get replacement parts from the manufacturer.

What I wish from you in the future, would be that you continue your monthly updates (just like during the kickstarter campaign), where you tell us about your challenges, your thoughts, your doubts and perhaps equally important, how we (the community) could support your mission beyond "just" buying your product.

What you have created here is more than just another blender (there are plenty of blenders to choose from at the electronics shops), it is a community and a promise for sustainable kitchen appliances that can be repaired by the end user.

Therefore, please, do not lose from sight that your product is not only another blender. Because otherwise you will only lose against the hundreds of blenders in the market.

Thank you again and keep the battle going!
